Default 2004 kodiak problems

I'm asking for help. I have always had a slight hesitation in my 2004 450 kodiak. this happens when you first give it gas there is like a dead spot then it takes off. or it wants to cut out on you when for give it gas or take off and when it is in 4wd. well yesterday a went on a ride where I had to cross a creek a few times now this creek is not super deep and I crossed it some last year with no problem, but yesterday it would want to stall out even if there was a small almount of water in the road. if I went in it, it wanted to stall out. I would have to keep the throttle wide open when i crossed the creek or hit a water spot in the road. this is a stock bike all but the 26 inch mud lites and ITP wheels. it is starting to do this more now and I would like to know if anyone has any idea what is going on. thanks

I would think the slight hesitation, is either bad ( old ) gas, or the mixture screw is adjusted wrong, or the air filter isnt oiled or is dirty.
Not sure about the cutting out in water. Does it just bog, or does it sputter and miss? If it sputters and misses, look for connectors with water in them, or the spark plug is grounding out when wet.
