i didnt have to buy the whole thing on my own my parents chipped in about 1/3 of it but my parents buy pretty much all the parts for it
o yeah a friend of mine who has done work with atv electrical systems before is coming over tonight. to help so hopefully we can fiqure it out im still open to more suggestions though

make sure ur holding the plug ( or have it leaning on) the engine or frame for a ground.

 

I like the finger in plug cap test better [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img] rules out sparkplug and makes for more fun.

 

well we didnt find out anything last night but we are going to take in my stator and coil into the dealer and have them test them because none of us were confident im our electrical skills

 

Just another thing I thought up of, not sure if it would apply to a atv with a battery as one with out. Any way there should be a number of wires coming from the block (i.e the staor). Now test for power coming for these wires by cutting thew and while the engine s turnig see if they spark of the frame or other earth. I know in two strokes there should be two that spark, one from the primary coil for the spark and one for the lights. but since you have a battery there may only be one. any one else know how many? anyway this will tell you if the stator is gone. As for the coil see if one of the wires leading to it spark off an earth when turning over the engine if it doesn't spark its not the coil if it does it is the coil it is. Or you could buy a multimeter rather than sparking them off the frame. By the way don't feel so bad I think I found more bad news i think my crank seals are gone, I took out the engine today, I've spent more spanner time on quads than ridin.

 

i think ive got it. i took the stator and the new coil to the yamaha dealer today and the guy tested them. he said the source coils were bad so i had to replace the stator. it makes sence becuase the source coils make the spark. so im going to take a really close look at the wires going to the source coil to see if anything is wrong and if i cant find anything then im going to buy another stator. also the rickystator stators are cheaper than the oem ones i will probably get one of these but are there any known big problems with them.
O yeah the guy that tested them was really nice he didnt charge me anything he just said dont worry about it keep your money and buy another stator.

before u pay for a new starter bump start it to make sure thats it u wouldnt want to buy a new starter and have the prob be the coil

 

the coil tested good considering it was a brand new coil
