Default cooling fan?

My girlfriend's 2004 Bruin oil cooling fan will come on after a lot of slow riding on the land her mom owns which consists of hills mostly. There are a couple of shallow ponds she loves to ride through and the few times we have rode together, I have heard the fan come on a couple times. It shuts down after a fast ride across the hills although. We also ride it here at my house(2 acres) and I have yet to hear the fan come on here. Sounds like you may have a problem.

Bt the way, she puts it in 4 wheel drive when we ride through the woods on her place. I really can't tell that there is a difference in either mode as to which one makes the fan come on quicker. Mainly it just comes on when we ride slow.

The oil cooler is probably plugged up, by dirt and mud. sometimes you have to just about disassemble the front end, in order to flush the cooler well enough. Try getting right into it, with the garden hose, and make sure the water makes it thru. If the water doesnt flow thru, then the mud is probably dried and baked on, and you might need some more pressure to break thru. But keep at it, eventually the water will clean it out.
