I just bought a 1984 yamaha ytm 225 dx .. how are they ? any quirks or known probs? i know its shaft drive but does it have reverse? will the reliability and all around tuffness even come close to my honda 185?

BTW im paying 200bucks for it , description says it has good spark good compression runs and rides good but smokes a lil and needs back brakes, it doesn't look very hurt in the pic but the head light is missing ..sound like a good deal??

225dx is one tough tri-moto. If it smokes, chances are pretty good that the rings are worn. Brakes shouldn't be to expensive or hard to fix. For $200 you can't go wrong. Is it yellow, blue, black {rare}, or red+white??

On the old 225's if you do the rings make sure you do the valves and valve seals also.
In fact you may want to start by just putting in a set of new valve seals and see if that does the trick.
