my battery has been in there for 2 years and still going strong.

It is critical that you have a good battery. The dimming is most likely showing you that its a bad battery. Age of battery makes NO difference. Especially if the ATV is stored in a cold garage or barn for the winter. I know many who replace batterys every year for this reason.

If the solenoid is 'clicking'- it should be fine. You can do a volt reading on the other side (opposite of the side the battery is directly connected to) of the solenoid when you hit the start button to see how much the voltage drops. Mine drops to right @ 12v when hitting the start button. My new/fresh battery shows 13-14v when full charged. Amps are the key here and voltage will just show you a bit about the health of the battery.

I would definately say that its a battery. You can probably first try checking acid levels in the battery. If they are not where they are supposed to be, add distilled water. Or another cheap solution ($4.00) is replacing the battery acid - which walmart often carries for that exact reason.

this happend to mine replace the start solinoid under the rear left fender and charge battery it should fire up
