Yeah, especially yours banshee392, I'm glad someone agreed with me. But besides, we're talking about the best 2-stroke, does that have to mean power? Because you could have the fastest 2-stroke in the world and if it wouldn't start, would it still be the best? Not trying to start a fight but just read the topic, it doesn't say fastest or most powerful does it!

Bah.. if they are great enough for you to consider them one of the best 2 strokes, why are they so un-popular?

(serious question... not entirely smarta@s)

the ktm 550 is a animal, makes more power stock than both the cr or kx 500 ported.but they have a major downfall, they like to break kicker gears$$$$$$,but converted to remote start, and used for a race aplication there the bigdaddy of big bores

KTM did not start seriously marketing their bikes in the USA until sometime after the 550. KTM is very popular in cross country racing now though. Two months ago I raced one of the Hare & Hound National Desert Race Series races, and the starting line was at least half KTMs. There were about 300 bikes on the starting line, and KTM bikes easily outnumbered all other brands combined. These days, if you desert race, KTM is the bike to own. The standard model KTM 525 MXC has a close ratio 6 speed transmission, and a stock top speed of 95 mph. And both the KTM 525 MXC Desert model and 525 EXC model have a wide ratio 6 speed transmission, with a stock top speed that approaches 110 mph.

I've had my 525 MXC topped out in sixth gear in the desert only once since I have owned it, ... that thing is scary fast.
