Mine sputtered everytime I went into enough water to create steam. I rejetted it with a quad works power kit that included a K&N filter. The stock machine is rich from the factory. Steam in the intake reduces the amount of oxygen that can be used for combustion and causes the rich stumble that you are experiencing. The dyno jet kit with the K&N filter corrects the mixture through the whole range and it fixed the problem immediately. No snorkling or rerouting was necessary. It also gives you a little more power through the whole range. I am sold on dyno jets system. Also, put some dielectric grease in the spark plug boot and any other plugs that you can get apart. Mine are so tight that I don't want to screw up the seals to get them apart and I am not having any trouble with them at all.
