ive never heard but have they ever put a rotary in an atv. they are small light weight with excellent power to weight. and you can rev them to the moon. almost like a two stroke but cleaner.

They have no low end power.....They make a two stroke look like a torque monster...

I've always wondered why someone hasn't tried it yet. They are pretty small. Very simple. Heck, they have less moving parts than a two-stroke! The only part that moves is the rotor.

this isn't exactly an atv, nor a rotary motor, but marinetech makes a streetbike with a turbine a helicopter turbin engine in it, jay leno owns one. If you can fit that into a streetbike chassis, i'm sure you could do the same with a atv.

I did a little more searching on the idea. A rotary was successfully used in a few hundred Norton MCs in the UK.

There's a company in Davis, Calif. that's working on a rotary based on an OMC (Outboard Motor Corp.) design from the 70s.

Most rotaries have a flat torque curce (generating about 80% at idle) through 5500 RPM or so. The horsepower is them completely linear based on the RPM. (HP = Torque * RPM / 5252). Given a constant torque value (the power that a motor actually produces) the HP will always increase with RPMs. HP = Torque at 5252 RPMs.

They have a 650cc motor that makes about 50-75HP for about $6K if you could get them to sell you one. After seeing their website...I hope all of their money is going into the motor...cause the website leaves MUCH to be desired.

Leno mentioned that he was at a stop on that thing and because of the side exit of the exhaust, he noticed the front bumper of a Maxima next to him started warping at a stoplight....That would pi$$ some people off.
