Default Carb Joint Repair Question

The carb joint (The peice connecting the carb to the intake/cylinder/head/whatever else you want to call it) has a cut that abouts... and 1 inch and 1/2 long. I was wondering if I could use some silicon sealant to coat the cut and just cake it on their so I can ride this sunday and wait for the peice to get in? Would silicon sealant work? Any other recommendations?

If its rubber, then a tire repair patch would work better. Or get the rtv black from permatex, at the auto parts store...its oil and gas resistant. Normal silicone sealant, probably wont stick very long.

Default Carb Joint Repair Question

I planned on replacing it but my dad is outta town and I dont have any money or a credit card, and he gets back next monday and im going riding this sunday... so I just want a temp fix to ride untill I get the part in. I talked to him and he said not to use silicon because it might suck it in (he used to be an auto mechanic) so ill probably try the tire patches or the RTV. Any other ideas?

As already mentioned the best way to go is a new intake boot. But, in a pinch I have wrapped plenty of DUCT TAPE around the area of the rip, as long as the rip is not all the way around the boot. Just rip the duct tape off in maybe foot sections and get plenty over the area being covered. Still not recommending you do this unless you are a master with duct tape. LOL!

I agree, don't chance a slobby repair job. Good way to have a small problem become a bigger problem
