I went thru the same scenario with my warrior. The clacking , once it begins, never goes away. And to save you some time and money. If you can find the sprag clutches out of a 300 honda , they will work also ..Just another option..Be careful when installing the flywheel because you can damage the new clutch very easily...Hope it helps

 

I just replaced the starter clutch in my 660 raptor. It had less than 20 rides on it, and there were metal flakes everywhere, but none in the crankcase oil.

Better fix it now before you damage the main bearings, etc.

2001, could you elaborate on how damage is done? Dropping it, or overtorquing the socket head bolts, or something else?

I would buy a service manual and rip into it. You will need a flywheel puller, a torque wrench, etc. I did this job on my raptor and it wasn't that difficult to do. Another set of hands will help.

 

that's $100 in tools just to do it myself, it would probably cost less in labor to get the shop to do it - plus I don't know what the hell i'm doing when it comes to motors to begin with

 

just find a friend that has a torqe wrench and the puller is about 40 bucks through dennis kirk, im pretty sure you can fix it your self for less than a dealer would charge, if you get a manual for the bike which is a really good tool to have any ways it will walk you through it. i would get the clymer manual though its more in depth about doing the stuff than the factory service manual. the service manual is like take off the nuts, take of the cover take off this blah blah blah. the clymers is better and cheaper

 

o yeah or if your friends dont have torqe wrenchs you should get one anyways their a good investment. i got an 11 dollar 3/8 inch drive torqe wrench from harbor freight. and it works just fine. go to their website. shipping shouldnt be much

 

that doesn't sound too bad - every torque wrench I looked at before was at least 40 or 50 bucks. I already have a manual on cd - I'll look at it and see if it's going to tell me enough to figure it out

 

heres a 3/8 inch one, i must have gotten mine on sale but its only 20 bucks.



i think the 1/2 inch one is only 10 bucks im not sure why though

 

heres the 1/2 inch one it starts at 10 ft lbs and goes up i would go with the 3/8 its more fine for small engines and will work on your car and that stuff too
