that looks like the right one. it should work, you will need a new starter clutch one way assembley and the idler gear that goes into it. it will run you about 200 bucksw for brnad new parts, o yeah you wil need a new stator cover gasket

You probably need two different torque wrenches. That main idler gear mounted on that tapered shaft is a bitc.... to bust loose and I believe it is the highest required torqued nut on the entire quad. The torque setting is very high for obvious reasons. I wedged a piece of metal between two gear teeth and cranked on that nut to break it loose.

You need to remove the Metal one. Im currently replacing my whole electric start system.... And Stator... I bought my 4-wheeler and the guy said the electric start worked but he didnt ahve a battery. got home and hooked a battery up. Nothing worked... jumped the silinoid.. the starter spun but no sound... took the starter off... All the gears are gone... so Im currently re-buying all the parts and stuff. *sighs* Sucks. But you pull the metal side case off, and check the bearing because there were metal shavings in mine too and what I think happened was the gearing blew and shot the bearings all over. So your bearing might have gone. You gotta wait a while to find a good deal on a starter clutch and stuff... I went up to 177.75 on one when they can be bought for $210 aprox new. I finally found one that was almost brand new for $80 and got it. I dont know about the removal process but you take the metal side case off, and its got sealant on it, so you will need a new can of RTV silicon sealant when you put it back together. Good luck and if you have any tips for working on it, Im needing help too. Just gotta wait for my parts to get here now. Ordered a New Stator, Starter clutch, Idler Gear and I think thats all. Cost me almost $200 sofar... Got lucky on the stator and got it for 107.50. Just wait and look for parts. Im happy cause I have a pullstart on mine so I can ride it while waiting for parts :-P. Found out the springs that hold my starter brushes, the springs were broke to... so this thing is major messed up. Good luck though. Hope I helped.

does all your warriors only make this noise when starting and killing it or the whole time that you are running it because i hear a knocking noise comming from the clutch cover/starter area of my lakota that is consistant when it first starts and then after warming it up for a little bit it does it still but its like on and off and irrigular, i always thought it was because my primary clutch hub had some play in it...........i deffinatly dont want any shavings getting in my oil although i havent seen any cuz i just had a complete engine rebuild (top + bottom end)

on my magneto flywheel thing. it took quite a bit of force on it to get it off. like a 1/2 inch braker bar with a 4 and a half foot peice of pipe over it. it went on quite a bit easier
