I think I'd have to see the race to say which one is faster between these two. The entry level 4-stroke dirt bikes like the Honda CRF 150 and the Yamaha TTR-125L are seriously gutless. Both manufacturers do a marvelous job of detuning these bikes. My wife has a TTR-125L, and it wont get out of its own way, and the CRF 150 we test rode was pretty much the same.

Who are you gonna ride with? What do your friends ride? Quad guys and bike guys generally don't mix too well. Their trails or not compatible, dirtbikers don't like double track trails. Normally they like tight technical single track stuff. One of the tracks in my city will not allow quads to ride at all. They say they can't maintain the track properly because of the quads.

Oh, and about the race, I would put my money on the blaster, 2- stroke 200cc will walk on the stock 150-4.

The KTM site is wrong, because the part about the 525 MXC Desert being a 2-stroke is a typo. Look closer and you will see that the engine specs between the 525 MXC USA and the 525 MXC Desert are all exactly the same, including the 4-valve head on the "2-stroke" 525 MXC Desert. When was the last time you saw valves, an overhead cam, and roller rockers on a 2-stroke? The only difference between the 525 MXC Desert and my 525 MXC USA is that the Desert model has a headlight and tail light, and it weighs five pounds more because of the lights. The 525 MXC USA has the wiring harness for lights, and if I wanted lights all I would need to do is change the front number plate and rear fender for the versions that have lights, and plug in the wires.

The 4-stroke 525cc KTM rips pretty good on its own though. Top speed stock is 95 mph, and it gets there just about as fast as you can shift through six gears. I like what KTM says about the 525 on their web site:
It's somehow a good feeling not to have any real competition: with its outstanding performance, the 525 takes the competition apart at will in the open class. The perfect bike for the very courageous and for those who love power above all.
