what kind of set-up should i get for my 01' warrior's air box ? i know that the stock is no good .
i also would like to know if i should get new tires or keep the stock ones. i dont race but i do ride pretty hard. mostly on fire roads and in the desert but will go to the dunes more frequently in the future (3-4times a year). is there a tire that will perform ok in all situations but not great in any? or do i need paddles? if so -any recomendation on size and do i need fronts also????????
thanks in advance

The first thing you should do is to lose the pitiful filter & system of securing it to the intake. While the primary benefit is the longevity of your engine, the secondary one is much improved air flow. The Pro Design which I run comes with a primary foam filter & includes a foam overwrap for conditions that warrant it, altho I've never found it necessary to use it even here in Az. Some use a gauze type filter, but in my opinion foam does a better job with the fine dust we have here without running an overwrap. The system runs about $99 thru most of the acccessory houses.
As to tires, if you can afford to replace the new stock tires right away, you might want to look at the pure Sport Bandit XC. They are a true 4 ply tire as opposed to "4 ply rated" tires which are really 2 ply. The XC has a Kevlar band running bead to bead giving the tire excellent sidewall protection from rocks or otherhazards and provides superior sidewall rigidity fo reducing flex or rollover in hard cornering. I have run these tires for two years or more & find the harder rubber compound in the tread area to quite durable even here with the rocky hard pack we have to deal with.
By all means buy the fronts as well. You'll find that they solve the tendancy of the somewhat heavy front end of the Warrior to understeer in cornering.

mster,
I agree whole heartedly with Hard Packer. Although I run a K&N with outerwear, His solution is probably better. As for tires, the best thing you can do is get rid of those stock ballon tires. They can't seem to hook up to anything. I bought holeshots for mine and the difference was phenomenal, but the ruber is too soft for AZ. The sharp rocks waste 'em. I'm definatly going with the bandit xc for my raptor. Also, I wouldn't go wider than a 10". I got 11's on my warrior, and it feels like it negativly effect the handling. Although it is more stable on the off camber trails and steep hill sides, you have to apply much more wheel spin in tight corners.

Happy Trails!

how do i know what size tires to purchase ??same size as the stock? or lower and wider in the back?

will these tires(pure sport bandits xc) be better or worse than the stock if i want to ride in the dunes ? (i realize that they wont replace paddles, but i need to watch how i spend!)

My current Bandits are 20" because 22" sizes weren't available when I bought them but are now & with a slightly more open tread pattern. As you no doubt know, an "all purpose" anything whether it be a tire, quad, whatever, usually is not very good at anything. I'd think that the exceptionally deep lugs on the Bandit would tend to dig into the soft sand, altho I've heard of people reversing the direction of the tires with better results. At any rate, switching one tire/rim set from one side of the bike to the other would be a lot easier than dismounting & mounting the oem tires.
Another thought re sizes..with a 20" tire you'll need to gear up to regain the top end performance and in the dunes the loss of 1" ground clearance probably wouldn't be a problem but in the desertXC you will surely need full skids. I have run thru several swing arm skids that were trashed from repeated hits on rocks, etc.
