Default Scrambler 500 4x4 vs new '06 Wolverine 450

What do you guys think of my two choices? Are they aimed at very similar customers? Do you think they'll perform similarly? Or are they very different? I'd like to hear some feedback.
Thanks.

i think the scrambler will smoke the wolvy, cuz it has the same 450 engine as in my kodiak, i think they will perform similarly, the scrambler probably more capable with the locking diff and more fun with the 500 HO motor, the wolvy would probably more oriented toward carving thru the trails than power

What he said. We've owned a 500 Scrambler 4x4, and my wife has a 450 Kodiak right now (same engine as the new Wolvy). The Scrambler 500 should blow the doors off the Wolverine 450 anywhere power or speed is involved. I would suspect the Wolverine will be more reliable and need less maintenance though.

I can't stand pooh-laris, but I'd take a Scrambler over the 06 Wolverine. That's how much I hate that thing...

I considered both the scambler and the wolverine 450 4x4 before buying a quad. these were the only to bike to fit my needs, trail riding and farm utility work.

I bought the wolverine and am very happy with it. I have owned a few other yamaha atv and motorcycles in the past and always have had reliable service from them.

My main problem with the scambler is it looks like they Hacked in a front driveshaft on to a chain driven engine. the yamaha has shafts front and rear and looks like it is designed better, like they started with a blank sheet (when they designed this engine for the kodiak). The polaris looks like instead of designing what they needed for a drivetrain, that they just modified something they had the tooling for. Why would you want a chain drive on Any 4x4 quad? I have read a whole lot about Polaris reliability problems, and have know a few people that had a lot of uncalled for problems with their polaris atvs. I know a old guy who had to replace one front brake hose one his polaris, then replace the other one a few months later. His polaris is only 4 years old, garage kept, and only used for deer hunting.

The scambler may be faster in the fields or a drag race, but I don't see anyone leaving me lagging behind on the trails in southern ohio. The top speed of my wolverine is 54-55mph which is too fast for deep woods trail riding. I can keep up with the warriors and 400ex on the trails with no problem on my wolverine 450. I can actually leave a lot of the guys on sport atvs, due to the wolverine being a very easy bike to ride fast on the trails with. the suspension on the wolverine 450 is great, it does not beat you to death and i have not bottomed it out yet. The highest i ever just is 3-4 feet, and it jumps fine.

The 4x4 system on the wolverine 450 is very nice and works very well, it does not have lockers or low range - but unless you are mudd bogging it or pulling a hay wagon, you don't need either one of those.

Out of all the atvs i hav owned or have ridden the wolverine is the less tiring, you can ride it all day and not be all tired and sore. And that is Priceless!

I think Yamaha done a fine job on the wolverine 450 4x4, they may have designed the best All-Around ATV* ever built for the average guy/girl that likes to Trail Ride (even aggressive trail riding) including trails that goe thru the creek that leave the sport ATV's stuck behind you.
*excludes anyone who wants to Race, Bury it to the hadlebars in mud, or jump 5 feet or more!

Im not saying your not a good rider but if your leaving 400ex's in the woods id say there not very good riders if there getting passed by 4x4's. My wife has a Scrambler 500 HO 4x4. Pretty fun to ride.

Hey RadRaptor,
I ride down near Jackosn, Ohio alot. We ride in some reclaimed strip-mined land in Oak Hill, Ohio. The point I was making is that on our trails (really hilly terrain with a lot of sharp turns) you cannot ride faster than 35mph - and it does not matter what kind of ATV you are on.
Where we ride in Oak Hill, i can keep up with anyone on my wolverine 450 4x4, regardless of what they are riding. If you are riding fast enough to leave me behind on our trails, I will just pass you after crash into a tree!

Bill woods has hit the nail on the head most every where I ride its the same thing (with the dunes being the exception) most of the local trails hear are 35mph or less also. If you want to wake up the wolvy put on the gytr pipe, put in k&n and cut a 2-3 inch hole in the airbox lid,and of course a maybe a bigger main jet ( I said maybe cause mine didn't need one,it ran rich from the factory). This this can pop and hold wheelies now. This is closer to what yamaha should have gave us from the factory. I love it now, before it was fun but not quite fast enough
