The Scrambler 500 should blow the doors off the Wolverine 450 anywhere power or speed is involved. I would suspect the Wolverine will be more reliable and need less maintenance though.

One of the guys I ride with has a wolverine and he always asks to switch with me. He is saving up for a scrambler as there is just no comparison between the two. If you are stuck in trails that you feel you can keep up with everyone then they must not be very good riders. My scrambler has mods I know but it accelerates way faster then most quads and in trails thats what is key is getting up to speed after a slow down. Also you want power for jumps that have short runs before them. With a little effort and around $400 the scrambler becomes a beast that will go through anything and keep up with almost any one(even modded sport quads) in trails and hills. Drag races and jumps over 8ft aside the scrambler is a true Sport quad with true 4x4 on the fly. You will be happy with both but you will not get bored with the scrambler over time. Mine lifts the front up with no effort at all on all types of surfaces.
I am not a polaris fanboy, I just did the research and these are the only quads that are sporty and 4x4 which I was looking for. The polaris will beat it in every catagory.
Now if only yamaha would make a 700SE that had an auto trans. Oh well guess I will have to learn to shift

Unless Polaris got better in the last few years, they don't really do a good job of overall ATV design. Ever had to removed all your front plastics and gas tank to check your sparkplug? Thats what Polaris has a history of doing. Using self-taping screws to hold parts to the frame, taking a snowmobile clutch and putting a plastic cover over it and hoping it won't get wet.. Whenever I work on Polaris ATVs, they almost go together like they are homemade.. things you wouldn't think you would see on a production type ATV. A lot of things seem to be second thought.. like the Polaris engineers took a motor and stuck it in a frame and went about changing things until it worked. We have a big ATV group of Honda, Yamaha and Polaris. We end up fixing the Polaris a lot but it always comes back the next weekend. It stops running a lot more, but always comes back. The Polaris may cost less.. but I can tell you first hand that the money is made up in labor costs for repairs that should be simple. It all matters on your riding style. get-r-done or go around. This may seem pretty bad.. but if you know someone at any dealer that sells Polaris and Honda.. or Polaris and Yamaha.. or Polaris and whatever, they almost never like working on the Polaris quads. To someone who only rides, they are fine.. but if you really work on motorcycles/atvs.. you can tell there is a lack of engineering... even if they are faster or have a softer ride.
