To be able to beat a 400ex
#11
I used to have a very built Warrior. It had port/polish, titanium valves and springs, high comp piston, web cam, a small bore, and etc... I had the opportunity to race many 400ex's and the best I could do was tie or just barly squeek a win. It's hard to get a warrior up to speed, almost not worth it anymore because of how cheap other options are now. for example it's much cheaper to sell the Warrior and buy a stock 400ex instead of building the Warrior and spending 2x the money you would to go just as fast with a stock 400! Warriors arn't built for performance what so ever, and it's costs alot of money to get them there. Then when you do build them you have to deal with lower reliability and the possibility of blowing it up and having to spend more money to rebuild it. If I were you, I might consider saving your money and getting a better quad. I'm by no means trying to tell you not to do it, and more power to you for wanting to build it up cause it's a blast to do and quite an experience. I just want you to be aware that you won't get as much speed and performance as you think you will, but man they are torque monsters when built!

you could diffently pass a 400ex with those mods. Friend raced his warrior with pipe filter and justs agains a completly stock 400ex and beat the 400 by quite a bit. Me I want to be able to beat litly modded 400exs. I have nevver raced a 400ex but would like to, Im always up for a race. Just today I raced a atc 250r and a atc 200x. I had 2 people on my bike so that slowed me down a bit but anyways I lost to the 200x by maybe 1 or 2 bike lengths and beat the 250r by about 10. Their must have been somthing wron with the 250 because from what I hear a 250r should destroy my bike. Maybe it was because it had like a 10t front sproket...The 250r wasnt stock eather, DG pipe and silencer with airbox lid removed

If you want more ponies just face the facts and save your money for a newer quad!
** Also, some of those 400ex's I was racing and barly beating/tieing had some mild mods but nothing more than a slip on silencer, filter, and jets. It's really not worth it at all...

I never said I beat a 400ex, I said I had a friend with a warrior (which is a bit better than mine) which beat a completly stock 400ex. As for the 250r, yea its nothing to be proud off, I know its not running right when a warrior can beat it. Somthing is F**Kd on it . It has the smallest front sproket Iv ever seen so that probly takes away alot of speed and he was complaning the whole day how his bike is bogging and he thinks it was jetted rite. He had bought the bike the night before and it was his first time on a 2 stroke. Give it a month or 2 and Ill race it again and post up the result, can almost garuntee it won;t be the same if the bike runs rite
As for giving up on the warrior, I can't really afford it but would I can trade it for a 300ex. Would I better off doing that? I just want somthing to be able to beat a 400ex stock or one with a pipe and filter. I don't really care if I have to modify it too much to do it

I could gear my bike for higher speeds but I don't want to lose all my torque. So Ill gear my bike for mid range speed. Whats a good mid range sproket setup? What will it take to beat a 400?

Actually you can't afford to keep the Warrior then. It will cost more to build the Warrior than buy a used 400ex. My brother has a Warrior with WB exhaust, jet kit and 20" tires and every combination of gearing. It doesn't even come close to any the three 400EXs I have that are only running an open airbox lid, WB filter, and Dynojet kit and stock exhaust.
I would say BigBubba is giving you sound advice. Take the money you would spend beefing up the internal engine plus the money from selling your Warrior. Plus once you have the 400ex, you still have room to mod it. Not to mention the benefit of having better handling ans suspension.
Oh yea, he also has the 300ex. A fun bike but I wouldn't go dumping any money in it either if my goal was to run with a 400ex. I wrench on all these bikes so I know them very well. There isn't anyhing wrong with the jetting or the setup on any of these bikes.
