Raptor vr. Banshees

You sir, are full of crap. The police can and will give you a ticket for less than 5 miles per hour over the limit. They usually don't, but they can. Try telling a cop that, government regulation blah blah blah states that blah blah blah. The guy clearly has some money into his Banshee(you don't run race gas just because it smells good, and it does). I think 86 is probably conservative.
For pete's sake, all this drag racing talk makes me wonder why some people even waste their money on an ATV. Next time you see a dirt road or GASP, a race course(dirt to be sure) you should explore the all terrain portion of your vehicle. Ever wonder why the manufacturer put those funny little ***** on the tires? I'll give you a hint. It wasn't to make it sound cool on asphault.

After looking at the HP curve of the Duncan System on the Banshee, it is apparant the focus was rideability and not peak power. So the drag results should'nt shock anyone. A Banshee equipped with "peak power" oriented pipes would have probably ran away from the basically stock Raptor. It's pretty funny that people think there should be no racing since the Banshee is more suited for the dunes. Guess what? They are 2 of the fastest ATV's sold today and dragging will happen time and time again.

I was at Glamis last weekend. A friend of mine showed up with a new Raptor. Raced a stock banshee up Olds Hill and they were dead even. Multiple runs and swapping riders showed the same results. Raced my piped banshee and I pulled him by 8 bike lengths. The Raptor does have great low end power but runs out of snot at higher RPMs. The Raptor will hold 3rd gear but will not accelerate in 3rd on the steep portion of the hill while my banshee will wind out in 4th. By the way, the Raptor is geared VERY high. Maxed in 3rd would probably be faster than the banshee in 4th.
The bottom line is that the stock raptor does OK. It is very easy to ride due to gobs of torque and great suspension. Opening up the restrictions on the intake (snorkle) and exhaust (spark arrestor)should greatly improve the bike. As to which is better - raptor has the better suspunsion/chassis, motor is harder to compare. I love the 2-stroke kick so I will never own a 4-stroke. For trails/woods the 4-stroke is hard to fault.

I agree with sik_banshee, at Glamis last weekend on Olds hill my Raptor will pull 3rd gear on the hill. I was there with a stock Banshee and one with FMF pipes and no airbox. I beat the stocker 4 out of 4 times by 4-5 bike lengths, but I lost bad 4 out of 4 to the piped Banshee. The piped Banshee can pull thru 4th gear all the way up. The only mod I have on the Raptor is a 12 tooth gear on the front.
I love my Raptor, it is easy to ride, dunes nice and at the end of the day I don't feel like I've been beat up like I did on the Warrior. For me that's what I wanted, an all around sport bike thats fun to ride in any location.

If you read my post, I said that the Raptor LOST bad to the piped Banshee. If you don't have pipes on that Banshee then, don't race a Raptor, you will lose! Do the math, 350cc vs 660cc with almost the same weight. Name calling will not change that. I've been riding at Glamis with these people for years, I was there, that's the way it went down.

Okay, my bad. I should have said I read in a mustang magazine that speedometors are +/-6 MPH. The NTSHA regulations I just looked up only reffered to a reasonable level of accuracy (how do you quantify that?). I also saw a number of speedos documented that have accuracies in the 1% range, or maybe a +7/-2MPH reading accuracy (at some speed). I don't know the actual accuracy of that bikes speedo.
