First off it has little to do with pro stats or pro bikes. Those machines are dramatically modified from stock form and the riders often make the greatest difference in competition. The 05 yfz is faster and arguably better handling than the 05 trx450R. The R is a little more plush so its probably a better rec quad. But I guess I dont know how you can tell me that the R which sells fewer units, has less power, and does not out handle the yfz is the better machine.

maddog56, how do you figure Honda has the #2 race bike? Is this your opinion or do you have some supporting evidence? I follow all types of racing real close. I don't see it but have an open mind. Explain how you have come to this conclusion.

Wrong. It all has to do with pro bikes and stats.Have you ever heard of the saying "win on sunday, sell on monday.I am pretty sure if yamaha had the big #1 plate you would be talking out the other side of your mouth.Do you think1 guy(or girl) who has been riding for years but new to racing and another guy(girl)who just bought a quad and has little to no experience both enter a race will have the same skilll
level?I highly doubt it.
Pros are all highly skilled and can utilise the quad capabilities much more than an average rider whether it is a honda, yamaha, suzuki, kawi, etc.
"rec quad"?That's a joke right?haha..."less power"?the 04 450r has more torque(2or3 ft/lbs) than the 04
YFZ.The YFZ has 1 more hp than 450r.+1hp and -2or3 ft/lbs does not equate more power.
Handling? The 450r can handle 1 rider with the checkered flag in hand anytime, anyplace.
Wait until next year's races................You'll see.

My feelings are:
The YFZ is uncomfortable but I like the styling and I am partial to Yahmaha
The TRX is more comfy but I don't like the headlight, but I love the black model
I owned Hondas for 37 yrs, it would be a tough choice between the two
I've seen the two trade wins, depends on who gets the holeshot
They're both great quads, I'm still waiting for the Zuki to come out

lol, i love all you guys sayin to take the fork out of our mouthes, ok, in some cases that may be correct, but being my size 6'1" tall and 135lbs, that extra 13 lbs may wear me out before the days end when riding, I know 13 pounds, whoopty freekin do right? well 13lbs may be the difference between winning and losing depending on rider size. I am totally biased toward Yamaha, and I will give props to honduh because I have traded wins with them many times. but overall i gotta say, 13 lb. difference for the electrics and if you transfer the YFZ to a kick start it drops like another 5lbs so its still a 13 lb advantage over the kick start honduh... but heck, as i said I have a severe bias!!!

Back to the compression ratio - Out here in Cali we only have 91 octane. Some other states as well. That is going to be right on the edge with 12:0 compression. If I'm not mistaken Honda already recommends 91 octane on previous 04-05 450R's running 10.5:1 compression.

maddog56,
Let me know if you want the links to view all GNCC and GNC race results (and not just the pro classes). You will see that Honda 450r riders consistently place more riders in the top 10 than Yamaha. I can't tell you if there are more Honda 450r riders. You are right that Honda riders dominate the pro ranks right now even in TT (now called Extreme Dirt Track).
I am just messing with you for proclaiming the YFZ450 as a better race quad. The YFZ450 is a great racer too. I think Bill Balance would be faster on a Honda though.
