Is the Raptor all Yamaha says it is?

I think pairof98s pretty much said it all.
However, I disagree with those individuals that think that you have to ride The New Raptor to be allowed to form an opinion. As it turns out, The New Raptor is a 4-stroke after all. And for anyone that's ever been there, well, we know how the 4-stroke Quads do in the Dunes, don't we?? Don't have to ride, buy or steal one---we know.
Do not make a $7000 mistake if you are a Dune person. Stick with the 2-strokes.

Well I ride in the sand at Glamis with Banshees and I have no problem keeping up. In fact my Raptor will beat a stock Banshee up Olds hill by 4-5 bike lenghts. Now you put a pipe on that Banshee and it's a hole different story. Yes the Raptor is a 4-stroke, but its fun to ride and I've had mine for a month with no problems so far.
If you've riden 2-strokes all your life you won't like a Raptor. It is a 4-stroke, the bigest, badest 4-stroke Yamaha could build, and I love riding mine

No question that the Raptor will keep up with a Banshee, in fact, I ride with 3 guys that each have a 2000 Banshee. In a drag race, I can beat them on the Raptor and I can also beat them with my '98 Banshee with FMF pipes. The Raptor dunes very well but there is no substitute for what a Banshee can do in the sand. And I love to hear that twin wail!
I have a Big Gun exhaust on the way for the Raptor and we'll see how it changes the performance. A piped Raptor may surprise some people with piped Banshees.

Pairof98s,
Couldn’t agree with you more, different strokes for different folks. Question on the Big Gun, is that a complete exhaust system including head pipe? And what is BG saying about jetting? Also what are they claiming as a HP gain, do they have a dyno run?
Sorry about all the questions. I’m trying to build my Xmas list, so far it looks like the Raptor is going to have a great Xmas

I finally got a chance to ride the Raptor. I liked it, but I am still worried about the problems I have heard tales of. Overall it was a nice machine. Feels great to ride. I hope that things don't start to wear out like other yamahas do. I think I'll wait a year or so before I buy one though. I'll let them get most of the kinks out before I get one.

I feel that the Raptor is all that and more. It makes you think twice about pinning the throttle, because it will pull a wheelie easy. The only drawback it has in my opinion that in the wrong hands this thing will hurt someone very bad....especially the reverse...superfast!!!!! It won't be long before the price of a Raptor is boosted up and that's a fact jack...

Big Gun claims saving 5 pounds and adding 5 hp with their complete system. I ordered only the slip on for now to see how it works out. It isn't supposed to be too much louder than stock and I am hoping I won't have to re-jet. The carb set-up looks like I would have to disassemble half the bike to change jets.
I know that the Duncan Racing/Double Barrel pipe on a 400ex is obnoxiously loud. I couldn't live with that.

I realize you can get payments that low but who wants to spend up to five years paying for the thing. I don't care how high the interest rates are if your on a five year plan with that thing then you cant say you got it at $6500 or $7000, by the time your done paying you probably accumilated $1000 to $1200 in interest.
To make a long argument short unless you have more money then brains it's not worth it.
