What's the Problem with my Banshee
#1
Here's the deal. I locked up the crank on my banshee riding in water. I sent it too Mission Yamaha to have the crank rebuilt, cylinders bored new pistons installed and a lower case port job done. The upper cylinders were already done. I got it back put everything back together and broke it in. My first time to ride after the break in it ran great for two practice sessions 5 laps each, I was diggin it. Then for the third session my clutch started slipping, no problem I bought a new clutch and installed it now all of a sudden I runs like crap. I can nail the throttle and pop the clutch at the line and it seems to bog down like there is too much gas in the carb or something, when it burns it off or the rpms are high enough it seems to be fine. My ride is a 97 with moto-fast 2-1 pipe and Keiein 38mm single carb set up. Also a cool head with 20cc domes and a cylinder bored .040 over running 180 psi per side. In a compression test one side pumps up faster than the other. And on a plug check one plug is a little leaner than the other. I need help it took forever to get this back from Mission and now it dos not run right and its killing me not being able to go out and and ride, this thing should run, like a well a Banshee.

Is the side that pumps up faster the same side that is lean? I would say you have a leak some where, most likely the side that is slower to come up to pressure. i would also check your carb and make sure it is jetted and adjusted to the mods you have done. Also check your reeds maybe one is spread out to much. These are some things I would try......Hope it helped

Dude, I think your best bet would be to get some insurance on that POS set on fire, find the biggest hill around and then and watch it roll. After you collect your insursance money GET A HONDA!!! No really it should be fast if it was jetted right or if you had some Toomeys or maybe 2 stock carbs bored out to be 28's. Like another guy said you may want to check your reeds. It also maybe that your not getting enough back pressure to make any power. Or did you get that pipe to fit on right. If you can't keep the pipe to stay on the head, get some more pipe spings and double them up and silicone it up real good around where the pipe slips on to the head. Hope ya get it runnin... Later

To check for leaks on the whole engine is pretty simple. Get an old plug and drill it out so it has a hole in the middle and attach a compressor and line to it. Presurise the plug to about 100 PSI. Then spray the outside of the whole engine with a mixture of soap and water. It will bubble if there is a leak somewhere. Oh.. you will have to be sure that the cylinder is either at BDC or TDC. Block off the intake and exhaust. And you will need to put a regular plug in the other cylinder. Have fun.

Your banshee would probley haul azz if you removed the single carb and pipe set-up. Get some fuel into those cylinders with duals, and get out with a set of good pipes. When I got my motor back from CT it ran like a dog. As you know it takes too much money to have a motor built and it run like it did before you sent it in (or in my case worse)!! I had FMF pipes and silencers so I knew that wasnt it. I called Allen at CT and told him of my heartache. He said to go out to my bike, rip off the single carb and kick it as far as I could. Then go back and put the dual stockers on. So I did it and WOW!! It hauls. I mean really hauls! I havent even put on 28PWK's yet or V-force reeds. I am pleanty happy with its speed as is. Just something to consider! Hope you get it going again! LATER
