Default Drag 700r vs 660r raptor

I took my once ridden stock 700r to LS Utah right after Labor day, raced against my friends 03 660 with full yosh, Pro flow and K-N, and 12 tooth. I am about 35 lbs heavier Plus or minus a few. His jetting could have been a little on the rich side. However, he beat me the first two races by about 4 quads, we both had to shift to second.

Then I took my lid off, drove around for about 3 minutest to let it adjust, we raced again I beat him every time by about 5-6 quads, I could pull 3rd all the way up, we were racing up the steep face of sand mountain. I had a 02 with his same mods that ran great, however, i think my stock 700 is just as fast and the handling and throttle response is MUCH BETTER!!

Um...that makes no logical sense. There's no way you can be getting beat by a piped 660 by 4 lengths and turn around and beat him by 5-6 lengths because you removed the airbox lid. There is no possible way that it could add enough horsepower to give you such a huge win when you were just losing by 4 lengths. Removing the airbox lid adds 1-2 HP tops, it's not a huge improvement. Your saying by removing your airbox lid you gained around 10 quad lengths in a race...not possible, sorry. Someone had to be racing differently...or your friends 660 isn't wasn't running well at all. The biggest difference between the 700 and the 660 is most aparent when both machines are stock, but after mods they are VERY close in power, if your 700 is stock a well running piped 660 should beat it everytime.

I owned an 01 660. My bro owns a 700r. The 700 does everything better. The 700 makes no weird noises. The 700 is a great quad for anything except mx which it wasn't designed for.. The rear suspension on the 700 mops up all over the 660 in the whoops. The old Raptors didn't rev. The new ones do, though it's better to short shift.. My unbiased view..

It is hard to tell the exact length, but is was between 3-4 quads when losing, and 4-5, maximum 6 when winning. As far as it being a fluke, we must have raced that hill 8 times to be sure.... we were both shocked. I stated earlier that I thought his quad was a little on the rich side, However, that would negate his 35lb weight advantage. It is possible when you have EFI optimizing your mixture. The results I stated are true, I have been ridding for years, and I am no rookie!

I don't doubt your results, I'm sure it did end up with you beating him. I'm just doubting the accuracy of your testing with the fact that removing your airbox lid doesn't give the power improvement you claim it does. Something seems a little odd about this...and just to prove it I'll take off the airbox lid this weekend on our 700, and I can guarantee I won't gain 5-10 bike lengths like you claim. The 700 is a sweet quad, but most of the improvements lie in the suspension and handling which I thought were great changes. It didn't gain as much power as alot of people would like to think.
