Drag 700r vs 660r raptor
#1
I was out at the drags last night finally got the chance to line up against the new 700r's... I have to say honestly no competition for a experienced rider and just a pipe on his 660. IMO they dont rev out and they surely dont build revs at fast as the old raptors. However i did see a stock 660 and a stock 700r race each on knobbies in the sand and the 700r barely beat him, and it pulled on top end. Now i raced a 700r with the gytr pipe on it and paddled. And i smoked him ever time by out 5-10 bike lengths, In a 300ft drag. Also i did notice when racing the 700r they make a terrible noise, and the tranny "clunk" every time you shift. It a loud clunk cuz i can hear it over my 103db pipe when i race next to him. And the FI makes a funky noise also, you can definatlety tell your racing a 700r just by the sound and noise it makes. But then again recall all the cannondale 440 FI makes a terrible noise also, maybe its a FI think.... This 700r was popping and stalling also, so much for FI.

Uhh, I haven't come across another 700 that ran this crappy. I think the owner of that 700 had something wrong with it, or it needed to be badly tuned up after his mods. I've read a few posts on here saying that the stock EFI sometimes cannot compensate for certain pipes and mods. I bet you he was having this problem because he expected the EFI to adjust enough. He should prolly go out and buy a power commander, I bet it would be a much closer race then. You've got work done to your Rappy though, you should be able to beat them pretty easily I bet you'll be more impressed when you come across one that runs better, but your not going to notice much power difference from the 700's and the 660's.

no their were two 700r last night one was running funny(i give you that much), but they both made funny noises like the old cannondale 440's. one guy kept stalling in coming out of the hole in a drag race. Was it bogging down or was it rider error, i have no idea. I was just letting the guys on here no what i saw and hear. And both clunked when shifting. Ive got a little work done to my bike, still a 660 though, and 450 would have given me a better run than the 700r. I mean come on hes got 26cc's more... I was dissapoined thats all.

These noises seem odd, but maybe I'm not being observant enough when riding it? The tranny making a little clunking noise on shifting should be normal, but you say it's louder than normal. Is it louder than your 660? Also, what does the noise coming from the EFI sound like? I've gotten a few good rides on our 700 and haven't noticed any noises that seem out of place, maybe this is the beginning of the first 700R problems?
Oh, what I mean by user error is that they didn't properly tune their bike to run the best it can with it's mods. Most people expect the EFI to work flawlessly and compensate for minor mods (pipe and filter). So they assume their bike is running really good when in fact it isn't. Alot of people have no idea about the power commander and other products that do the same thing, I think this would solve the performance issues you're describing. But the noises are another story, and a little concerning.

The 700R will easily beat a stock 660R, theres almost no comparison. At first I thought my 660 would've beat my 700R but its getting harder to compare cause the more I ride it the faster it gets so now I'm not so positively sure it would. Haven't had a lot of time on it but both my modded 660R and stock 700R beats my buddies piped Predator pretty easily. When my 660R was stock, their piped Preddys beat it senseless.

HP wise they are close, but the torque of the 700 is king.
In a race the 700r wants to be shifted below 6500 rpm. (Short Shift)
Let the torque do the work
If you try to rev it out it will loose.
I have outrun friends worked 660's 673's and 686's along with a lot of 450 cc quads.
I still loose to quite a few also.
The only noise my Raptor makes is a brake squeek from the rear.
