lol ernie........but from what I know on these forums, rapfam seems to know quite a bit about the rappy.........
fing....just make sure you know what you are doing, do the extra research(like said, you can loose power....or ruin a head).......You might also try to talk to some of these guys on the side too.....they might have enough knowledge and time to make you a better deal than the larger companies will.....and most of them know what they are doing to.........like Ernie, and rapfam...etc.....

There is really two kinds of porting. One type is to clean up the burrs in the casting and shape protrusions in the flow area so they are more aerodynamic. And to smooth and polish the port walls. You don't have to be a specialist to do that. You will feel a difference in HP with this type of porting. You can find info by searching the internet on how to do it this way. It is pretty straight forward.
The other type of porting increases the port size. You actually bore out the ports. Then, you match port your intake as well. This is where you need the R&D and a reputable Raptor specialist. You will see major gains if it is done properly. You motor will run like crap or be unreliable if you dont' know what you are doing.
If you port you head the first way yourself, and later want to upgrade and send it to a specialist, it should be no problem.

Oh......and one more thing I was going to mention.....I know on the preds there are different batches of heads......and the guys that port them want to know what your number on the head is so they can port accordingly I guess..........Is there anything like this on the rappy(those who know)??
Kinda a joke to me about the preds.....I don't understand why they would be different, but the guys that spend more time than me on them say they are......

Ya... I think he just bought a new hammer and chisel. So he may be able to get the job done quicker. To Rapfams advantage though...he had the luxury of having a Craycrft head from his bike and the Sparks head from his dads. By looking at both of those...he came up with a killer combination.

Thanks for clearing that up Mad, the info I got must have been a special circumstance (or maybe just wrong, lol). 350 is still a great price and I've heard great things from quite a few of your satisfied customers.
If he wants to run oversized valves let him. With the right porting it could have a negligible affect on performance and still allow more room for modifications later. There are all kinds of setups out there and the most popular ideas arent always the best for everyone. Besides if you're going to spend the money on new ones and tear it down to get at them you might as well upgrade to what you want while you're there.
Four stroke porting is IMO a big step up in difficulty from 2 stroke porting/milling. If you feel comfortable and can afford the outcome if you screw it up then I say go for it. The best way to learn is to try it, unfortunately thats also the expensive way.

stallion's right he cross referenced both the heads OF TOP BUILDERS(Sparks & Craycraft) . and it worked excellent. chrissy's 686(rapfam) is hella fast no doubt. she is also light..light...light.... she doesnt pack a beer belly like me and stallion though(sorry bro). but its a winning combo, light rider, experienced rider, and a good motor. ive said this MANY a time before, all the raptors power comes from the head. leave teh valves alone and get a barker porting, CP 11:1, and a stage 2 with kibblewhite springs. Finq your bike will be a runner..no doubt... oh by the way what exhaust are you running.

sorry but I cant give you my know how just because we have so much time and money, but i will tell you dont go hog wild. clean casting marks watch for vavle guides and vavle seats, spend most of your time polishing the exhaust side (exhaust side doesnt need to be bigger.
