Default wolverine rear drive

i was ridding yesterday and was shifting from reverse to forward, wile at a slow reverse roll, i put it in first and gased it. big mistake. clunk , grind, spinning front tires . something obvioulsly broke.
I have power to the front wheels but not to the rear. Im gessing i broke the middle drive gear or something in the transfer case. whatever it is, its not going to be fun to repair. Anyone know if ill have to pull the motor to get to the transfer case or ideas of what might of broke? Ive tried to describe this the best i could but if you have questions ask.

Take the rubber boot off the rear drive housing / swingarm and peek in there, maybe you just broke the yoke knuckle from the motor to the drive shaft, worst case, you could have shattered the ring gear in the rear end where the axle runs through, a bit more spendy, but once you isolate the problem, there are plenty of used Wolverine parts on ebay, as long as it is outside the motor, parts aren't that hard to find or too spendy, although a new ring and pinion from the dealer would probably run a few hundred bucks.

also, check to see if the axles are spinning, and if its just the wheels that are not spinning, you may get lucky, and it might just be your hubs,,,,happened to me on my old explorer years ago,,,,i learned the hard way,but got lucky

You can rule out the middle gear in the tranny. If you have power to the front wheels, it's in tact. The same middle gear provides power to both the front and rear.

I'd be thinking more along hte lines of a broken U-Joint as 95Wolv pointed out. Aside from that, it's in the rearend. I've had mine apart and being a 95, there was some significant wear on the axle splines that mate to the ring gear. I suppose yours could have finally given. If that's the case, it's new axle time. Good thing is that the ring gear is much harder than the axle and mine showed no wear whatsoever.

Good luck.

95wolv you are good. That is eggzactly whats wrong. The axle just wore out. Oh well I needed an excuse to buy a new one anyway, because the one i had was slightly bent. I looked at that ring gear and it looked fine.
95 you probably have been the most helpfull person to me on the forums.
