banshee blaster converstions???????
#1
Hey guys, I recently bought a 92 or so model blaster for my girlfriend. I ride banshee's, but that is too much power for her right now. Untill she learns to ride a little better at least. Anyhow, I was wondering about convertions, I have a crap load of banshee parts laying around, almost enough to build a brand new one-minus frame and motor. I've heard rumors of people that have put banshee back axles on blasters, banshee front brake hubs and lines ect. I was wondering if any of you have done anything like this, how hard, and how did it work out. I want a much wider stance on the blaster, but I dont want to spend money on wheel spacers if I have old banshee parts that can be used. Anyhow, any feedback would be great, even suggestions of things to try. Thanks
Jeff

Well the truth is here. I did it, I put a banshee axle on a blaster. The banshee axle is about 3 inches wider than a stock blaster axle. Its a pretty simple process, but there are a few tricky mods you have to do. For on the blaster brake rotor hub pretty much goes in the trash or on ebay, it wont work with a banshee axle. Why you ask, great question. Well the blaster brake rotor is made to slide back and forth on the axle as needed and to help the brake pads wear evenly. Apparntly yamaha was trying to save a buck on the blaster and didnt want to use hydrolic brakes on the front or rear. The rear brake is a mechanical cable driven brake. Pretty much they suck, being a some say "kids four wheeler" that seems a little unsafe to me. So here is the fix, it widens out the back tires giving it a better stance. As for the front many people know just turn the wheels around. For the back using a banshee axle works great. Ok back to the fix, you MUST use a banshee brake hub. The blaster brake disk will bolt to the banshee brake hub. Als before you put the rotor on the hub you need to space it out, 3 washers was the magic number for me, if you can get those damn allen head bolts off. I ended up having to weld a nut on top of each one to get them out and replace them with new. Once you have the rotor on the banshee hub you put the axle back together using the blaster carrier, and snug everything down. Now the somewhat tricky part. You will notice when you put the brake caliper back on it doesnt work to well. Only one side of the blaster caliper moves to clamp the disk. Thats why on the blaster the rotor floated on the axle to make up the difference in pad wear. Here is the fix for this. You need to find some slightly longer bolts with a flange. Exhaust bolts or caliper bolts I think are what they are called. Basically you want the caliper to float back and forth on those bolts, and the flange on the end allows you to tighten them down and lock tight them so they dont losen up. If anyone needs help shoot me an email at JAMOORE_BNSF@YAHOO.COM. Ill be happy to help those out to make your blaster safer to ride.
