Can I make my Kodiak go through more mud?
I have a 2000 Yamaha Kodiak. I origionally bought it used for the purpose of ice fishing, hunting and snow plowing. Well I recently discovered how much fun it is to go trail riding up in northern minnesota and mudding. My problem is that all the guys I ride with have Polaris 500 sportsmans and I cant go through as much mud as them, mainly because of thier extra ground clearance and more aggresive tires I would assume.
The only thing I can see to do to improve my Kodiak would be to put on some 27" Mud Lites and a clutch kit and a snorkel for the tranny(I learned about the snorkel the hard way).
I at least have the Kodiak with low range and for 90% of what I ask this machine to do it is perfect except just that couple of times a year I want to go mudding. So buying a new Grizzley although would be an attractive option to me probably would not fly well with the wife. So here are a few questions.
Will I need some kind of a lift kit to clear the fenders with 27" tires?
Will a clutch kit be enough to overcome the power loss of these big tires?
How wide of tires should I get?
Is PVC good enough to make a snorkel with?
Is there anything else I am missing that would make my lowly little Kodiak a Monster Mudder?

Thanks for the reply. I will have to read up on how to snorkel all of those things. I do have a winch though. Its a Ramsey 2500, if I didn't have it I would STILL be out there in a mudhole somewhere. It saw a lot of action last weekend. BTW, any suggestions on tires?

Thanks for the help guys. I have a long way to go to figure out exactly what I should try but all the input sure helps. I am definately going to snorkel it though. At least the tranny for sure, last year I got it filled up with muck! What a pain in the a** that was.
