Just wondering. I have 4000 miles on my 04 (purchased new in June 04) and I'm wondering how long the engine will hold up on these things if you take care of them.

 

They will last 20 years if you take care of them. Of course there are times when things are going to break and every once in a while there will be a catastrophic engine failure, but for somebody that follows a strict preventative maintenance schedule there's no telling how long they will last. It also depends on how you ride and in what type of conditions.
I have an 85 Honda 250sx 3-wheeler that is still going strong.

 

I know of people with 20,000+ miles on some of their equipment, and I know of some really old three wheelers that have been running 20+ years but have no odometers. Air filter, oil and routine maintainence they will last a very long time. If you have 4000 miles on yours already with no problems you're doing something right.

 

Yup, I've seen old atc 250r's still with original pistons and bores.

the main thing comes down to maintenance....but it also comes down to keeping your machine clean....people don't understand that if you don't clean your machine, it does the most wear and tear, dried mud is especially bad for machines.....

clean them when you get home each time, check that the air cleaner is clean, change fluids on a more than regular basis, keep everything lubed....and like I said before, keep the machine clean....you'll be surprised how long they will last....

my problem is, I never keep a machine more than 2 years, so I never get to find out...lol
