Pro flow intake, exhaust, and a jet kit would be a good start

If you really like that DS650, get a fuel injection unit for it so it would start easier. Going to cost you around 1500 bucks. Michigan can get hella cold!

best cheap thing you could buy that would really make a difference is a pipe off of ebay, there are some cheap auctions there for good pipes, an intake doesnt make a whole lot of difference, but a pipe properly jetted will make a difference, you could also buy a small front sprocket for faster acceleration or a big front sprocket for more top speed, i'd go with pipe, & jets

The intake makes a huge difference. A piped bike with an aftermarket filter and no airbox lid will pull multiple lengths on a piped bike with stock airbox setup. If you dont plan on modifying the engine itself later you could go with a slip-on exhaust which is just the rear canister. The stock headpipe is pretty good.

if youre going to buy a pro-flow kit, get rid of the airbox, it increases air flow

Never had any problems with my ds in the cold Canadian winters -20c... still starts. Try some thinner oil for colder weather and maybe richen up your carb. The cheapest way to gain more top end would be different sprocket combinations then pipe and intake mods along with some type of cam for mid top or low power.

If your looking for the most out of a stock motor then go with a good full exhaust, Pro Flow K&N, and a Dynojet kit. No lid and proper jetting with these mods and you'll be surprized how good it runs.
