Default compression to octane?

is there a chart or equation to determine the octance of gas you should run for your compression?

There is a lot more things that determines the detonation rate of a motor than just static compression. There may be a chart out but I would not trust it myself.

agreed. spark plug type/heat range, air vs. liquid cooled, a lot of things affect what octane you should use. Just find the lowest octane that the bike runs on without detonation, it's really not an exact science.
