I have a new Raptor 700 that is showing it is overheating via the temp. "idiot" light on the dash. The fan is NOT coming on when this happens. The fan does work when I ran a jumper wire to it. It would seem that if the light comes on the fan should too....or do these use a seperate sensor? The bike only has a few hours on it and I did hear the fan come on the first time I rode it. Fuses are good and the coolant isn't overflowing. Any suggestions?

UPDATE: Just in case someone is reading this for reference; it turns out that some of the bullet connectors back by the relay weren't fully plugged in at the factory. Therefor the fan will work intermittently. I believe it has been on the Yamaha Service Bulletins for about a year or so now. Just check the connections and make sure they are FULLY plugged in. I bought a relay, temp. gauge and took mine to the dealership (no help) before the Internet finally helped me track down the problem.

 

I'd say take it back to the shop for warranty work. I wouldn't mess with it too much or if it's something major, they may blame you. And, it could be any number of things from temp gauge to electrical to the fan itself. Never know, might have a problem with the temp light...Sounds like you already did it, but I guess you could throw a meter on there and see if it's something obvious, but if not, I'd get it in for warranty.

 

I was planning on taking it to the local dealer but they said it would be weeks before they could get to it...what a joke they are. I may try a different dealer.

Check with another dealership. Our Honda shop does Yamaha warenty work. I wouldn't trust the Yamaha guys to put air in my tires.

I don't know if it is the same for your raptor, but my YFZ's fan only kicks on if the lights are turned OFF.

 

It never kicked in because it's probably forty below up there right now. Check it in August when it's sixty degrees out.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]
