start putting some of your sons college money away for upgrades!! lol, after you get used to it you will want more power, then realize you needed better suspension first to handle the power. If you will be riding with the boy alot then buy an armadillo six pack rack so you can carry some drinks and snacks along for the ride and keep them cool. Have fun!!

I had never ridden a quad before I got my raptor 660. Just take it easy. It can go ballz to the wall fast but you can also go slow on them to learn. As far as upgrade I drive rather aggressive so I am getting a +4 axle in the rear and gonna upgrade to YFZ450 shocks up front so it will handle better since the raptor has a high center of gravity compared to other quads.
I don't know why people didnt mention this also but here.
1. Helmet/ Goggles--- You would be amazed at how much mud and water can hurt when your going 50 lol.
2. Boots.
3. NERF BARS!!! Best way to ensure not breaking your ankle.. You might not be jumping but you can still still slip off the footpeg and run your leg over with the rear tire. (well worth the money spent. I have multiple times had my foot slip in to the netting when landing jumps or even riding.. Saves a lot of pain lol.
Then just learn how to ride.

I recomend getting a front sprocket ($12) with one less tooth, I think stock is 13 teeth. This way you will be able to put around without riding the brake or clutch. Not everybody wants to go "***** to the wall" all the time. Also, gearing it down a little makes it a little more versatile and funner for the less experienced rider. Later on if you want a few more MPH you can always go back to the stock sprocket.
