Things they can get you for in Monroe County, NY that I'm aware of (from friends who got nailed):
Operating an unregistered motor vehicle
Operating an uninsured motor vehicle
Operating on county property
(The first two wouldn't apply if you were registered/insured, obviously)

I live in Kentucky. I got pulled over. I got a ticket for ATV on the road, and no helmet. Could have gotten more but I suppose he was in a good mood. After court costs and this being on my record for the rest of my life it was just over $300.00.
Needless to say I haven't done it since. I knew I was going to get caught but until then I was going to ride on the road. Now I load it up drive a few miles then unload. No reason to give my state any more money for stupidity.
It is stupid to do; however it isn't going to give anyone else a bad name, thats why its a law. And I broke it, I paid for it. The end....
