How much is the fine for riding on the street?

I got caught when I was 15, 1981 but who's counting:-) The fines were for driving without a license ($200) and driving an unlicensed vehicle ($35). I'm sure it's more expensive now.

In some places it's acceptable but not necessarily leagle. I live in a farming comunity and a lot of farmers use ATVs to get back and forth to the field or go into town for lunch. The best thing to do is be an adult and ASK the police what's acceptable. A lot of cops ride ATVs too and they don't want their rights taken away any more than you do, so if they see some kid on a loud ATV speeding up and down the road he's going to nail him.
Use your head dude, be responsible.

In most small towns in the Western US while not being strictly legal it is mostly acceptable. There is usually a dirt trial running next to the highway that kids and ATV's will ride on. In towns around the Paiute trail in UT it is legal to ride your ATV on public roads in town if you obey a few simple rules. Here in Phoenix I have read about two kids that have been killed in the last 6 months or so riding on highways. One tangled with a cement truck with the obvious outcome. If you got busted by the cops, and if you were my kid, I would be more afraid of me then the cops.
have some respect for your parents, if not the law.
get on your bicycle and ride it down the road, if you have to ride on the road.

in Iowa........it is LEGAL........but only if you are going from farm to farm.......and your quad is registered/liscensed under a farm use.........so like my pred on the highway, would not be legal......
oh......and you have to stay below 35mph on the highway to be legal too.....

the fine is zero if you dont get caught, it wears your tires fast though. If I see cops I gas on it and head back to the trails, no cops no stops. RUN FOR IT!! fast as fast can be, they cant catch me!!

Well, it's one thing to ride from trail to trail. But don't go flying down the road just to go flying down the road. It just looks bad to the general public and give ammo to the atv/ohrv opponents. If we want to go down to the pit by my brothers house, we go real easy on the throttle and keep it slow in second gear. Little noise or the appearance of "another dangerous atv". Be especially careful in an area with kids. If I saw some a-hole screaming up and down the road when my kids were, or could be, playing out in the yard I'd stop him and have a little chat. If he wouldn't stop, you could count on me calling the cops even though it would be the LAST thing I'd want to do. And that brings up another point, if someone tries to talk to you, don't hammer it and leave them in a cloud of dust. Respectfully talk to them, and appologize if necessary. He may just ask you to slow down, and that's it. Even if he does ask you stay off the road, it looks a lot better for you (and the rest of us) if you stop and have a respectable conversation.

There is a kid here in my subdivision who was riding one of those pocket choppers on the road here in Brampton Ontario, the OPP got him and he was charged $7600.00 and $165.00 for towing charges and the bike was impounded, I got this from the cop whom lives next door to my inlaws.under age,no licence,no insurance, no helmet,no regestration. They let him go the first few times but he kept it up so he gets his just rewards. I have talked to several other kids here about it and they think because the motor is under 50 cc it is ok to ride on the streets and they think I'm stupid, weel see who is the stupid one.We have every thing running on the streets here but time will tell, you really have to watch out when you leave your driveway cause they are hard to spot and go pretty fast.
