what gears to use

DO any of you guys that race motocross or know anyone who races that could recomend what gears to use on what sections of an mx track and is it really nessesary to us 4th or 5th gear.

Depends on quite a few things.

The machine, that state of tune it's in, the power and torque output, handling charachteristics, tires and gearing, chassis/suspension tuning, etc.
