Nerf Bars

Nerf Bars
They are only necessary if you are competing in an organized event that requires them. The purpose is to protect you and the quad from getting tangled with other quads during races, and protect your feet/legs if they slip off the pegs. Some of the more expensive models also include wider/longer/stronger footpegs andpossibly kick up ends and/or heel guards. I just ride recreationally, but do hit the occasional mx track and occasionally bang bars with my brother. Nerfs were the first thing I bought for my newest quad, and I would never own a sport quad for long without installing at least a cheap set. Alba has an inexpensive set that seem to have gotten positive feedback on this forum. DG sells steel bars that hold up fine for rec use. Tusk(Rocky Mountain ATV) also has some that look good, although I have no experience with them. They look real similar to the Alba's.

At least it reduces the chance. I had nerfs on my Raptor and still broke my leg and ankle. That's what you get switching from dirt bikes to quads. When you get a little sideways in the air you want to stick your foot out for ballance.
Mostly they prevent other quds tires from getting tangled up between your tires.
