Default cold day riding

on cold days up here in Canada my kodi doesn't run great. think the carb is freezin up.
has anyone heard of putting somthing in front of the rad to block the cold air?(eg.cardboard)
think its a good idea or could this be harmful.
i decided not to jet, next year i will.

how cold? ive ridden in snowstorms since I was 10 on our ATVs and other then once and a while some trouble getting started once they are running they warm up fine. We usually have ours getting a little too hot and having to sit for a while because the snow cakes up infront of the fins and doesnt let air get to the head (air cooled). We hit the roads in the snowstorm and ride all night. on a side note after buying a sled I got a closed face sled helmet and although I sold the sled cause im at college most of the winter, that helmet isnt going anywhere. its sooo much warmer and has the face cone inside to prevent fogging. 113 on sale of dennis kirk a few years ago brand new HJC sled helmet

I would not recommend cardboard in front of the Rad...you could risk overheating it and causing yourself more problems.
The only real solution to the problem would be to bump the jet up a little.

Usually if you can stand the low temps, the quad can too. Ive ridden in 10F weather, and thats too cold for me, but the quads can handle much more.
Most likely the mixtures are getting leaner on colder days, and just unscrewing the mixture screw an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn, is all thats needed. Next time it runs crappy...try pulling the choke halfway on, and full on. If it runs better...its running lean. A quick fix to try until it warms up...tape some duct tape accross the intake, and cover the opening by about 1/3 to 1/2. This will richen it up, and probably make it start much easier too.

You didn't really tell us what it is doing when not running right. Next time it acts up, try a little gasline antifreeze. They tend to suck a lot of moisture(snow) and it can ice up the carb a little.
