I have always broken an engine in how I would normally ride it. Some people may not agree with that but I have never had bad luck doing so. Here is a link about break in procedures. Good luck. Break In Procedure

The single most important thing to remember about break in is to let the bike come to full operating temp , give it ten or so minutes then ride it like you stole it! For the first couple of passes shift up through all of your gears not placing a too much load just to get you initial cut in for the gears, down shift to let the engine compression break to get your seal on the rings. Do this for the first couple of times you start and ride the bike and then ride it silly. Never had any problems with the three bikes we have broke in like this and most racers I know use something very similar to this.
