Default Grizz can't do 30+

My 02 grizzly will not fo over 30 mph unless I go down hill then it tops out a 40. It seems to rev fine when in neutral and I can not hear anything abnormal at any time. last week while hauling wood around at low rpms the carb would load up and I'd have to stop and rev it up to clean the carb out and get moveing again. This week it has not loaded up on me once yet. I did have the carb rebuilt in Nov. and did have to sort out a couple other issues since. One was the carb did not have a plug on a port that needed to be capped off and the other was the battery was not putting out enough volts.

Where sould I start looking, carb, clutch or somewhere else?

Actually I did not think about trying low range, and just went out to see what it would do. Low range tops out at 31, and high flurts with 32. With low gear revving higher and getting there quicker, just like it should, its pretty much ruling out the carb. Guess its back outside with the car so I can have room to work again.

I am pretty sure that is not the cause since it is a two week old battery and before I bought it the bike would barely idle and I could not be sure it would be able to move at all.

BTW I decided to take it out on the highway instead of the field and it did reach up to 42 mph but it took over a 1/4 mile to get there, incase that would make a difference.

is it cracking,popping,or back firing?

did you pull the plug, whats it look like?

is the air filter clean? is the boot to the carb cut?

pull the sparkl arrestor to see if its clogged up,choking the engine

its not unheard of to get a bad brand new battery, but i agree, thats not your problem

if the motor sounds fine,id still pop the cover off,and inspect the belt, and make sure water hasnt bot in there crudding everything up

Id be willing to bet, the weights have never been looked at or relubed. Or its been in water and mud, and the weights got dirty.
If the weights havent been looked at in a while, its time to lube them.

the enigine sounds absolutely fine since I got the battery. Not a single pop or backfire. The plug was replaced about four weeks ago after I found the problems with the carb. Pulled it yesterday and besides having a very small amount of carbon on it, it is nice and dry and new looking. As far as the filter it could use a cleaning, even though it had better response with it removed it would not get above 42.
