2001 660 raptor
ok i just bought this atv about 2 weeks ago.the guy i bought it off of said that he had the tranny chaged to a 02 trans but i not sure.u can't trust everyone when there tring to sell you some thing.ok heres what it doing frist of all when this all started by my rear axle bolt coming lose i fixed that.when i was fixing that i was shakeing my axle back and forth and my rear axle bearing seem to have alot of play in them.is this normal. all so when this all happen when i was rideing back home when i would put it in 2nd gear and gas it. it would act like the chain was jumping teeth on sproket.well i got the rear axle all fixed and the chain tight like it shoud be but it still doing the same thing in 2nd gear it only does it in 2nd gear is the trans going bad or is the play in the bearing causeing this

it could be that its going bad cause it sounds like its grinding the gear

You have a bent shift fork and there is a "slider" gear and a "free wheeler" gear that are jumping. One has "dogs" the other has "slots". The shift fork isn't holding the two gears in place correctly and the dogs and slots are skipping. That is where that "chain jumping teeth" feeling is coming from. Yes it is possible for it to only happen in one gear. The more you ride it that way the more damage you are doing to the tranny. The only wat to fix it is to split the cases and replace what is damaged.
