Default Snow tires

Are the maxxis surtraks good in the snow or are the mudsharks better. Also is there any other tire that is better in the snow but is also good for the rest of the year?

Are the mudshark tires good, i found them online but it only has 24 - 11 - 9 and right now i have 22 11 9 and i want to use the same rims. Getting such a bigger tire, will it make naything need to re-adjusted or will it be ok. cause it will give it alot of gorund clearance.

I had surtraks on my recon. They were barely better, if any better at all than the stock tires in snow. With my experiences the narrower the tire's contact patch is, the better it grips in snow. My cousin had a set of $25 dunlop tires on his 250r, and they actually worked very good in the snow. They act very similar to maxxis 4snow tires, because as they spin faster they actually get taller and narrower, and dig through the snow to get better traction.

the 24-11-9's will work on the stock rims, but you'll want to get a smaller sprocket to compensate for the longer tire rollout. If you do any aggressive riding I would steer clear of anything taller than a 22, because the taller the tire gets, the tippier the bike gets, and the more sidewall roll you get.

The mudsharks don't look like they will be very good in the snow because they have a contact patch that is only slightly rounded and will try to walk across the surface of the snow instead of digging in.

I'm thinking that the maxxis mud bug or something similar would be a good snow tire. They Have deep 1.2" lugs and will put the machine's weight on a smaller contact area to get better traction.

Mud lites are pretty nice. Not sure if you can get the AT's in the size you need or not. Worth checking though.
