Default Raptor gearing

I am just wondering if I dropped a tooth in the front will it get me out of the hole alot quicker or should I stay with stock gearing, also will it help keep the front end down on the ground? My buddy has a modded YFZ450 with exhaust, airbox mods and cam mod I am trying to get the jump on him and stay ahead of him. Right now if we leave at the same time I can hold him off until 3rd then he starts to pull me,thats is assuming I can keep the front end down.I have tried taking off in 2nd and it didnt seem to help. Not worried about top speed I am also thinking that the lower gear will help on the trails that I ride and keep me from shifting so much.

One other ? I am thinking of going with the Stage 1 cam will I notice a difference? If so where lower or upper end,and is it a drop in only or will I have to do work to the motor. Wanting more power but I want to keep my quad reliable as well. Thanks for any help

you will leave the line faster, but your front wheels will come up much easier.

go up a tooth, thats what i did, and the stage one cam is awesome, atleast for my 350, i think it will only be better for the 660. with the cam and the extra tooth on the front u will be able to keep up with him and keep the wheels down, but easily bring them up when u want to.

Yeah, Go up one tooth, thats what I did on my pipe raptor and it helps alot. You dont lose any take off, because you shift less and the motor is enough strong to pull te 5th gear easily. Good luck for beating that yfz

Wont going up a gear make it lug more on the trails. I ride tight trails and some wide open and second seems to be the best gear but it seems a bit high and 1st to low. I might by 1 over and 1 under stock gearing and see which works best. I gues they dont really cost that much..

DragraceRaptor how do you like the stage 1 cam and did it make a noticable difference? Thanks for all the info.

Going up 1 tooth will help you get off the line faster because it will keep you from spinning bad. Going down a tooth will cause you to spin more but it will go through the gears a little quicker (better excelleration). As far as trail riding the Raptor is a torque machine so going up one tooth wont hurt you much and going down will help with slow speed trail riding... Mace
