When the edel is dialed in right cold starting is much easier than the stock carb. There's no choke, all you do is pump the throttle 4 or 5 times to let the accel pump prime it, and hit the starter button. In really cold weather sometimes it takes a 2nd try, but usually it'll go by itself the first time. I love it!

I never noticed this before, but after I did the motor the header glows red when the choke is on, worse in the winter, also because the piston is a JE lightweight forging with the small diameter rings, the thing does smoke a little oil until it warms. I contacted JE and they said that that was normal due to the more expantion of a forged piston, and the wider clearences.

Are you sure your jetting is right? A glowing header is sometimes a sign that you're too lean. Cold starting can also be more difficult if you're too lean.

The pilot jet is what controls the starting and idling, but if the pilot is off, chances are the rest of the jetting is also lean.
