Default yz250 case

we are trying to get a new case for my friends yz250 i think its a 87 maybe 86, i found this case on ebay says its for a 81
will a 81 case work on it? check my pics page for some pics of the yz. if anyone has an idea of what year it is let me know ... thanks

I'm 90% sure that's a 86, possibly an 85, not an 87 though. 87's had a white frame. 86 was a good year for yamaha's, the bikes ran good and made alot of power. That case on ebay wont work. I'd try to look for something from 85-87.

does the bike have rear drum, or disc brakes

Make sure you find the EXACT year of that bike before you buy a case. The mid 80's were messed up with the YZ's they kept changing stuff every year. Trust me on this one my yz is about 75% new parts.
If you can get me the 10th didget of the vin I will get you the year, it is 85-87.

here's the vin, some of the numbers were worn off. jya56a0091---304 thats all i could read.

i will get some better pics later on today... also it has a drum rear break and disk front..

There is something messed up with that vin # The 10th should be a letter. 85=F 86=G 87=H by that vin it is a 2001 [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img][img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

But for now......I looked up the OEM part #'s and all 85-87 crankcases are the same.

Yea I do think that can be fixed, but you will need to take take it 100% apart first (imo) then you might as well fix it propper. Give a word of advise to your friend "THROW that chain in the trash!" [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

IT'S a 1985 I took a closer look and the res on the rear shock is a 1985.
