what's the benefit of that? I don't see how it's any better than just leaving a big hole in the lid.

???? unrestricted clean air + more gas= more horsepower
More dirty air + more gas= new top end (NEW TOP END as stated in your Bio page)

Aren't lawn mowers governed anyways? First mod should have been to un-govern it.

the regular air filter catches all the dirt, what's the point of putting a paper one in too? Most guys with sport quads including me run with no airbox lid, and we're not getting dirt in the engine

I'm not doing a rebuild because of damage from dirt in the engine, the valve seals are worn out because the previous owner wouldn't let it warm up at all before he rode it, he beat it cold and that's what did the damage. It doesn't need a new piston, but it was only another $180 to throw in a high compression piston, bore it, and get the head ported, so I went for it while it was apart

If he took off the airbox lid he must be trying to do someting, still i dont see the need to go speeding across the lawn when ur mowing does a $hitty job.

John Deere L110- 17.5 hp w/42" mower deck, <LOL

I could just be seeing things, but it looks like that filter is unprotected from the elements? If so, I agree with MWQ. Your engine would be better off with a UNI or even a K&N after the first mud hole/stream crossing

You can run no lid, but in the past i have at least coverd with rain shield or screen. Cause I somtimes get a little muddy. I am willing to sacrifice a $3 paper filter rather than clean the main filter all the time. Maybe a pre filter with no lid is better yet!!
