Default Warrior Vs. 400 cc?

I am curerntly in a bind. I just bought my first quad this past summer 05. 2003 blaster that i am now selling for a faster four stroke quad. My problem is that i do not know what to get and not looking to spend more then 2800 on another due to that i am going to be driving soon and will have less time to ride. A 2003 and up warrior has caught my eye due to the used price but i have also ridden my friends z400 and like the power. Any info would be appreiacted.

Warriors are pretty fast but cant keep up with the z400. I have seen some pretty fast warriors. Around me there is a guy selling a pretty nice warrior for $2300

I have riden both a stock 02 warrior and a stock 05 z400. I could feel the differnce in the first couple of gears but it was not much.i am also a smaller kid weighing only 145 and my friend on the z400 is 6'3" 250. Im not looking for a all out racing demon but something that when driving on the road to the trails i can keep pace with him. Curerntly on my blaster that is immpossible and while on the warrior in 5th gear i kept with his quad not maxed out so i was leaning towords a warrior because they are cheap nad i can do a ton of stuff to modd them all up. The only type of racing i would do is recreational hare scrambles not expecting to blow anyone away. I live in East pa about 35 minutes out of the city so more info on that warrior would be appreicated.

To be honest, the warrior is only a hair faster than the blaster. I'd go with a z400, rap 660, etc.

Modifying the warrior probably isn't as cheap or easy as you might think.I own a 2001 Warrior and a 04 DVX 400 and both bikes are basically brand new and totally stock. The DVX is much more powerful than the warrior...I do like the warrior but it has a very heavy and dated feeling to it compared to the DVX.The DVX is also much quieter and smoother feeling due to the liquid cooled engine...If you do go with the warrior (and you may have to if don't have alot of money to spend)I would test ride it first and see if your happy with it as it is.I don't think its really practical to due a whole lot of modding to it.

I agree completely, Look at my mod list, that's what it took for my warrior to consistently outrun a z400. Once you start modding a quad it turns into a money pit real fast, that's what's happening to me, my mod list has no end in sight. I love my warrior and wouln't trade it for a 400 though, it's mostly a sentimental thing I guess, or maybe i'm just kicking myself in the @ss for putting so much money in it to begin with, I dunno.

I would always do a test rie before i actualy bought the quad.I am also strapped for money dependng on how much i get for the blaster in reply for me selling it in parts is a no sorry but i already have pictures and fliers around everywhere near me. I am only looking to buy the quad for about 2500 to 2800 and newer warriors with some mods are in that range. There are also some 400s in that price range but they are old/beat up and stock it will be a tough decision but i am really leaning towords a warrior. I am not looking for a race ready machine but a weekend toy that will help me stay with my friends on the long straights. And i agree with you that as soon as you buy that first modifcation your whoel wallet just keeps getting smaller and smaller.

Warriors are good dependable bikes. With just bolt on parts they can be made to run with any stock 400cc quad. In the woods they are fun bikes. The only thing i have never liked about them is the reverse procedure. Oh and after you buy aftermarket parts they do not become money pits, they become "longterm investments"..Peace.
