over the winter i bought an '01 warrior and i love it. however, i am worried about the amount of money to put into it. i realize i can part out bolt on accessories, but cant do that with the motor. i have a feeling that after this season of riding, i'm gonna want something with some more power. i see quite a few 660s and banshees out there for some pretty good prices. i'm leaning towards the raptor because of the type of trail riding we do and i have to say that reverse has came in quite handy. i'm new to the sport so all of the magazines that we have only talk about the 700r. are the 660s any good? i have heard that some of the earlier raptors had tranny problems. in general, are there certain years to avoid? any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

If a raptor is what your in the market to buy, yes the 660 is a very nice, dependable motor. Just stay away from the 01' models due to a lot of tranny problems. You can pick up a decent 660 for a good price. Just look around. Good Luck.

The 660 is a awesome machine. Its got plenty of power and looks good. Its great for trail riding and has a nice ride to it. Its also fun for drag racing with your buddies (especially after bolt on mods). The only place its not good at would be an MX track but it wasn't designed to be. It is a little tall and tippy but you get use to it.
Buying used, I would stay away from the 01s cause they had tranny problems. For the rest, pay attention to the starter cause some have problems with the one-way (bearing or gear or something?). I wouldn't buy one thats been built beyond a pipe and intake (no internal mods) but thats just me............Good luck!

yeah, i've heard about the 01 tranny but wasnt sure if that was the only year that had problems. i agree with your comment about internal mods or staying away from one that has them. i dont plan on doing any mx with it. just messing around with buddies. thanks for your opinions.
