oil cooling is better, but to hook up the cooling fan you will need some wire, a blade fuse and holder, a waterproof switch, and either some soldering skills or crimp-on connectors. Heatshrink or electrical tape is also required.

You attach the fuse holder to the positive battery terminal, then solder or crimp a wire to the other side of the holder, and run the wire up the frame, and to wherever you want the switch to be (probably handlebars, but it's your choice). Attach the positive wire to one side of the switch, and run another wire from the 2nd terminal of the switch to the negative wire on the fan. Then you run the positive wire of the fan to a good ground, and figure out how to mount the fan, maybe zip ties or something along those lines. Make sure your wires aren't against any hot parts, make sure they won't get pinched or rubbed through, and securely fasten them with zip ties every few inches so they don't end up hanging down and getting snagged on something.

I don't think the cooling fan is going to be worth it, at least with a stock motor. The components that are most susceptable to heat damage are in the bottom end (transmission and crank bearings), the oil cooler will target these areas for cooling, additional cooling in the head focuses on cooling down the head and cylinder. I say save your money for an oil cooler setup, but it's your choice.
