Valve adjustment? To do or not
#1
Who has had a valve adjustment done on there new quad? Did you notice any differance other than a lighter wallet? Just wondering why you can buy a car with 100,000 before tuneup but quads?......

It's called maintenance, if you're too cheap or too lazy to do it then don't complain when you start having problems.
Get your service manual, learn how to do it yourself and while you're at it try changing the oil, checking your cvt belt, greasing your zerks, and all of the other routine things that you should be doing.

Sorry but I rode my yz 80 for 5 yrs before so much as a new piston and rings...just think they could build these 4-strokes a little better since they want to put them on a podium above the 2-strokers

The problem with most overhead cammed motorcycle motors is that when the valves wear in they actually close up the valve clearance, if this is not checked and adjusted you will risk the chance of running with no valve clearance which will lead to burning the edges off the valves. This will then cost you big $$$$ to repair, a lot more than a regular valve adjustment.

Best bet is to buy a Service manual be the best 20 bucks you spend. The only special tool required is a feeler gauge which will cost you about 10 bucks got mine at sears. Adjusting valves is easy but varies alittle between quads on how to do (Why sevice manual is handy it will have step by step with pictures) It takes more time removing stuff to get to where you can do it than it does to adjust them. I find that my intake valve very seldom needs adjusted but the exhaust valve always does.
