The plug that ruined my day was on the bottom of the airbox, filled airbox and went in crankcase vent tube, took 8 oil changes to get all water out. Engine still seems to be smoking some.

OR... you could just buy a $5 stinger that replaces your gas cap hose, that way you'll stop sucking stuff up it, and clogging your cap/ball bearing... and you don't have to worry about spilling gas everywhere if you accidentally put the griz on it's side or upside down...

The ball in the gas cap can cause vapor lock on a tank even if it is clean. The stinger of which you speak may help, but, it will not help in every situation.

When the fuel is highly heated then cooled rapidly the check ball can seal off the breather hole and be held in place by the suction in the gas tank. If the gas cap is unscrewed then the vapor lock will be broken.

I threw my check ball away years ago and the quad never vapor locked since.

LOL! I wasn't even going to reply about the bearing in the breather hose. I figured it had the same to do with the exhaust clutch! Maybe I'll look into this now, it seems others have had the same problem on here. I might still get spun though. lol.

The Check Ball in the gas cap will not have anything to in common with the temperature of the coolant. It will, however, keep the gas tank from vapor locking.
