Default 700r rear brake pads - wearing out

Just wondering if any one else has had the same issues. I have gone through 4 sets of rear pads in about 200 hours of riding The last set went over the Easter break. We did about 250km of hard riding on beach track and mud and the pad is down to the metal. As you look at the back of the quad, the left pad is at about 20% and the right side is down to metal.
The 700 has a self adjusting park brake. I think this must be over tightening and causing the pads to wear. The front pads are still at about 80% and I do not ride the brake, I am paranoid that I dont touch it with my boot.

Any ideas?

The parking brake is probably a contributing factor. In my experience, rear pads usually don't last as long as the fronts anyways though. Mud really chews through pads too. One suggestion, switch to EBC Severe Duty pads or something similar and see if that helps out.

I have a set of sintered metal pads that I am about to put in. I think I will disconnect the park brake as well.

Unless you bent the rotor it's probably that useless parking brake that yamaha insists on installing on every quad.

I mostly use the rear brake. My pads are good after about 10 desert trips.

Ive actually removed my parking brake all together. I installed a 2 bolt block off plate. It cleans up the appearance and loses 2 lbs at the same time.

Yeah, that's the ticket! I did that for a while, the sparks looked pretty cool at night, but it made a hellish sound.

Hey Glamis do you have a link to the block off plate or know where I can get it? Was it on ebay?

You can get block off plates anywhere - local dealers, ebay, or just about any website that sells atv accessories will have them.
